Eligibility / Requirements:

You must meet the following requirements to begin your training:
  • Be at least 18 years old.

  • Hold at least a private pilot certificate.

  • Obtain at least a second-class medical certificate from an FAA-approved Aviation Medical Examiner (AME).

Training

This section details the comprehensive training process involved in obtaining the desired aviation certification or endorsement, covering both theoretical and practical aspects.
  • Enroll in an FAA-approved Part 141 flight school or a Part 61 flight training program.

Complete the required flight training hours, which include:

  • At least 250 hours of total flight time, including specific categories such as dual instruction, solo flight, cross-country flight, and night flight.
  • At least 100 hours of pilot-in-command (PIC) time, including 50 hours of cross-country flight.
  • Specific training hours in complex aircraft, instrument flying, and other areas as outlined by FAA regulations.
  • Receive flight instruction from a certified flight instructor (CFI) and gain experience in various flight maneuvers, navigation, emergency procedures, and more.

Tests, Exams & Experience

Pass FAA Knowledge Test
Study for and pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Knowledge Test, which covers topics related to commercial pilot operations, aircraft systems, regulations, navigation, and weather.

Pass Checkride
Prepare for and pass the FAA Commercial Pilot Practical Test (checkride) with an FAA-designated pilot examiner (DPE).

The checkride includes an oral exam and a flight test where you’ll demonstrate your skills, knowledge, and ability to operate an aircraft safely and proficiently.

Gain Experience
Build flight experience and gain additional hours as a commercial pilot, which may include working as a flight instructor, conducting aerial tours, banner towing, agricultural flying, or other commercial pilot roles.

Obtain Additional Ratings (if desired)
Consider obtaining additional ratings such as an instrument rating or a multi-engine rating, which can enhance your qualifications and job prospects as a commercial pilot.

Certification

Submit an application for a Commercial Pilot Certificate (Form 8710-1) to the FAA once you've met all the requirements and passed the checkride.
Upon successful completion of the application process and verification of your qualifications, you'll receive your Commercial Pilot Certificate, allowing you to fly for compensation or hire in certain operations.
